What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small file that stores website settings. When a website is first visited, a cookie is transferred to the user's device (computer, tablet or phone) via the web browser. The next time the user visits the same page from the same device, the browser checks to see if a matching cookie exists, and if it finds one, it sends the data from it back to the website's server.

This way, the website recognizes that the user has been to the site before and can automatically adjust certain settings or functionalities. This allows for a faster, more personalized and user-friendly experience – especially with more advanced web applications. Advantages of cookies
